Hi Everyone
This is a reminder that our next in-person conferences are happening NEXT WEEK! Kicking off in Melbourne on Tuesday, March 12th. Then we head to Sydney on Thursday, March 14th, so this is the last call for anyone still wanting to join us. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Tickets are on sale now via Humanitix. They cost $40, including booking fees and GST. As a subscriber to this newsletter, you can get 25% off the ticket price using the discount codes CMMELB (Melbourne Event) or CMSYD (Sydney Event). Tickets are limited, so don’t delay.
Neither of these events would be possible without the support of our sponsors. I want to thank Alistair Warren and Ben Galamaga from Trade for Good, who sponsored our Melbourne event. I would also like to thank Finola Burke and the RaaS Research team for sponsoring the Sydney event, especially the networking drinks.
Melbourne will be our first event next week. It will be a half-day event. Eight companies will present across two sessions, with a morning tea between the sessions. The final agenda for the Melbourne event is below.
Sydney is our second event of the week, and it will be a full-day event with the ever-popular networking drinks following the event. The final agenda for the Syndey event is below.
Reporting Season Thoughts
After another busy reporting season, ASX microcaps seemed to have come through February in relatively good shape. The S&P/ASX Emerging Companies Index TR finished up 5.15% for the month. This compared favourably with the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index TR and the S&P/ASX 200 Index TR, which finished up 1.72% and 0.79%, respectively. As we say back in Ireland, “one swallow doesn’t make a summer”, and we have had enough dead cat bounces in this latest microcap bear market to caution anyone about getting too excited about one good month. However, I have been chatting to several ASX microcap investors, both insto and retail, and overall sentiment seems better. Many investors commented that many microcap businesses are looking in good shape with improved operating results and balance sheets that have been repaired. Given the run in ASX large caps over the last 18 months, ASX microcaps have a lot of catching up to do, so let’s hope this market sector can kick on from here in 2024.
Content Recommendation
As part of this newsletter, I also want to highlight some good content worth sharing with my subscribers. Hopefully, the content will be something subscribers will also enjoy and get some value from.
As many of you know, I am a fan of US microcap fund manager Brian Bares. He recently sat down with Bobby Kraft from the Planet Microcap Podcast to discuss building a microcap strategy from scratch. I always enjoy Brian’s interviews, and this one was no different. You catch the interview with Brain via this Spotify link or search your podcast app for the interview.
