Coffee Microcaps June 2022 Newsletter

Hi Everyone

Welcome to this month’s edition of the Coffee Microcaps newsletter. May 2022 saw another decent decline in the ASX microcap section of the market although the microcap end of the market is still showing good numbers versus the ASX Small and Large Cap section of the market.

I have also provided a table below showing how Australia did versus other international microcap markets over the previous month and over some longer timeframes. As is apparent Australia is top of the pop with Canadian investors having a torrid time by comparison.

Coffee Microcaps Zoom Webinar Events

For anyone who doesn’t know I regularly host presentations from ASX Microcap companies via Zoom Webinar. These events normally happen on a Thursday morning from 9 am - 10 am Sydney time with generally two companies presenting.

The ASX Microcap companies that present generally have the following 4 criteria.

•Under AUD$300m in market capitalisation

•In revenue and approaching cashflow breakeven or already profitable

•Outside the resources and biotech sectors

•"Industrial Microcaps” In other words microcap technology, financial services, consumer goods, industrial products or services business, healthcare, stocks etc.

Content Shout Out

As part of this newsletter, I also want to shine a spotlight on some other good content which is worth sharing with my subscribers. Hopefully, the content will be something subscribers will also enjoy and get some value from.

This month I wanted to give a shout out to a free newsletter called the Humble Dollar. It is pretty US-centric but a fair amount of the content is applicable to investors anywhere. A recent article talking about how you don’t need the IQ of a brain surgeon or a NASA scientist to be a successful investor was timely. Especially given that FY22 has left a lot of highly-rated fund managers with egg on their faces when it comes to stock picks and performance.

The article is titled IQ Isn’t Enough and talks about how factors such as knowledge of your positions, experience, emotional fortitude and making your own luck are also factors that contribute to investment success. What I took from it was that in bear markets you really find out how well you know the drivers behind the stocks in your portfolio, how you will react to market drawdowns and that all this builds your experience which can help you make your own luck in future.
