Hi Everyone
Welcome to this month’s edition of the Coffee Microcaps newsletter.
Live Events October 2023 & November 2023
After a 3.0+ year hiatus due to the CV19 pandemic, we recently had live events in both Sydney and Melbourne. Many thanks to those who attended. Seeing old faces and connecting with many new ASX microcap investors was great. With CV19 out of the way, we are going to get back into our regular cadence of hosting events every 6 months.
Firstly, I will be hosting a 1-day conference in Sydney on Tuesday, October 31st 2023, at our traditional venue, the Metcalfe Auditorium in the State Library of NSW. Twelve ASX microcap stocks will present over three sessions on the day. There will also be networking drinks post-event at a watering hole close by.
Tickets go on sale on October 1st via the Humanitix ticketing platform. Tickets are $40, all up, which includes GST and the booking fee.
Secondly, we are coming back to Melbourne! I will host a half-day conference in Melbourne on Thursday, November 2nd 2023, at The Wheeler Centre in the State Library of VIC. Eight ASX microcap stocks will be present over two sessions on the day.
Tickets go on sale on October 1st via the Humanitix ticketing platform. Tickets are $40, all up, which includes GST and the booking fee.
The agenda for both days will be finalised in early October. So lock the dates in your calendar now.
Upcoming Coffee Microcaps Zoom Webinar Events
For anyone who doesn’t know, I regularly host presentations from ASX Microcap companies via Zoom Webinars. These events usually happen on Thursday mornings from 9 am - 10 am Sydney time, with two companies presenting.
I want to thank DMX Asset Management for sponsoring all the Coffee Microcaps Virtual events.
The ASX Microcap companies that present generally have the following four criteria.
•Under AUD$300m in market capitalisation
•In revenue and approaching cashflow breakeven or already profitable
•Outside the resources and biotech sectors
•"Industrial Microcaps” In other words, microcap technology, financial services, consumer goods, industrial products or services business, healthcare stocks etc.
I have created a separate email list for invites to these Zoom events so that I am not spamming all my subscribers. If you want to be added to the events list, please email me at mark@coffeemicrocaps.com, and I will add you. I would love for you to join us for these events. These events are free to attend.

Coffee Microcaps YouTube Channel
All the Zoom events get recorded and uploaded to the Coffee Microcaps YouTube Channel. As well as the ASX microcap company presentations, I do interviews with leading ASX Microcap Fund Managers on some of their top picks. Occasionally, we also have presentations or interviews with some international microcap investors.
So if you can’t join the Zoom webinars due to work, kids, life, or whatever, you can subscribe to the Coffee Microcaps YouTube channel and just hit the bell for notifications when new content gets added.
Also, if you look in the description section of each video on YouTube, it has the relevant video chapters, so you can jump to the start of a specific company presentation if that’s what you are after in a particular video.
Content Recommendation
As part of this newsletter, I also want to highlight some good content worth sharing with my subscribers. Hopefully, the content will be something subscribers will also enjoy and get some value from.
This month I wanted to share two interesting graphs I have seen in recent months and while a little dated not much has changed. First is a chart from the team at Cyan Investment Management in their February newsletter published in March 2023. The Cyan team noted “Liquidity continued to be extremely light in the domestic market (the lowest in 5 years and down 50% year-on-year)” and provided the below chart.
The second is from Michael A. Gayed reflecting a similar theme in the US market where he recently provided the below chart. Showing the performance differential between large-cap and small-cap stocks is back to CV19 levels.
My own research shows that calendar year 2008 was the worst year for the S&P/ASX Emerging Companies Index TR down 61.49%. This was followed up by the best-ever calendar year return for the S&P/ASX Emerging Companies Index TR of 95.77% in 2009.
Does this mean we are at the bottom? Are things turning? I don’t know, but I do know that markets are cyclical, and microcaps are currently out of favour which historically has been a good time to consider allocating capital to this end of the market.
